From Ostrich to Toads!

Hi all, we have 2 pieces of news to tell you about. The first one is that we had a delivery of a new treat this week, you'll never guess, well maybe the title gave it away a bit - it's Ostrich Gullet!! It might sound and look (to any humans reading this) quite awful but as all my canine friends will know looks when it comes to food can be deceiving and this is no exception - it is fantastic.
Okay, it might look a bit odd, but it tastes ggggrrrreat!!
It's really low fat at 1.2% which is why we can have it, after Dexter having pancreatitis a few months back it's been low fat all the time so the human scours the Internet looking for low fat things we'll like, we've got her well trained!
Don't try and get between me and my Ostrich!!
So, that's the first excitement, the second is a new resident who has made his home here, we haven't given him a name yet so are open to suggestions if you have any?
The Toad with no name...
It's a toad! We've had a few over the years but his one was hiding under an empty plastic compost bin which was by the back gate waiting to be given away. The human picked it up and there he was. She made sure there was enough space for him to escape and left him, but he was still there an hour later. She slid a tray of water underneath for him in case he was drying out...she had no idea if this was the right thing. Anyway, she keeps checking, and he's there every time so it looks like he wants to stay!

Have a great weekend all, and don't forget to leave a name for Mr Toad!  Dexter & Louis xxx

We'll have to get back to you about a toad name. But they eat flies and mozzies, so let him stay!

That Ostrich gullet looks wonderful. Wonder if they have them here?

Those treats do look a bit odd, but as long as they taste good. :)

Ostrich gullet eh? That's interesting, I've never heard of that as a dog treat. It looks like the pups enjoy it though! I don't have any good ideas for a name for the toad - I'm terribly dull when it comes to things like that. When we watched over a stray cat for a few days when I was younger (we found it sitting outside our door in a snowstorm), I named it "Catty." No creativity whatsoever. :)

A toad!! We will have to think of a name!! Holly found one in our backyard years ago and picked it up. The toad stung her and she immediately let it go!! I think they are cute! Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

Hey! Guess what! We just typed in 'Ostrich Gullet' into Google to see if we could use mom's plastic card before she got home and you'll never guess what the first thing is that popped up... your bloggie post!

Guess we'll have to do some more research!

First of all we'd like to point out that it is our Man-Human that scours the internet for the exotic foodstuff that we can have. If left to the female, we'd be emaciated fur-balls.

Although the Ostrich is indigeneous to Australia, the place to get low-fat treats for us pampered dogs, is Germany.

Luckily we have an English importer of delicious, low-fat treats from the Fatherland, so we can indulge in many exotic tastes.

We have a particular fondness for whole, small fish wrapped in chicken skin. According to our man-human they smell ******** awful. We're not sure what ******** means but we think it's not very good. Anyway, what does he know? He eats p-a-s-t-a and p-o-t-a-t-o-e-s and rubbish like that.

We hope that our friends get to sample the delights of Ostrich and fish treats 'cos we love 'em.

Dex and Louis

We've some toads here on and off in my powder room and they like to come out at night. My pawrents never like them, they will try their best to get rid of them before I'm allowed to use my powder room.
I find they're really interesting though.

Interesting treat! We'll have to look for it here, because we're all for things that are good for the pups and low cal!

We have toads like that around here too and last year had a big one that came onto our porch each evening. We called him 'Prince' but didn't kiss it, but the dogs sniffed it a few times! :-))

My mommy says that the ostrich thingie sounds gross, but I'm up for trying anything. ;)

About the toad... we have LOTS here in the south, but mommy says I can't touch ANY of them 'cause I don't know whether one could be the poisonous Bufo toad. They're sure fun to watch hop, though!

Happy Saturday woofs & hugs,

So nice to meet you! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I'm following you back now!

Your little froggie friend is cute! I don't have any suggestions for a name but I'm sure you pick one out that's just perfect for him/her.

My dog swap is held once a year, held usually at the end of May, early June. This year, swap partners have a whole month to buy goodies for their swap partners and get them sent out. Once they're received, they're supposed to post about them so everyone can see what they got. Swap partners have already been chosen but if you're interested, I can try to find a swap partner for you. It's still early in the month yet so plenty of time for shopping and getting your goodies sent.

Next year I'll host another swap and everyone will get all new partners. It's a great way to meet new bloggers and you never know what kinds of goodies you might get!

Looking forward to reading more about you.

Hi Dexter & Louis - nice to meet you! I saw your comment on some of my other doggie blog friends' blogs and though't I'd pop over to say hello! My humans have a real soft spot for Schnauzers because my childhood sweetheart back in Auckland was a Schnauzer - people laughed at us together coz we're so different but he was GREAT and had so much personality and could really take me on - he played even rougher then me! I like my boys fiesty and hairy - hee! hee! - oooh, there is nothing more handsome than a doggie with a woozle! Hee! hee! :-)

My humans used to live in the UK too - before they decided to emigrate out Down Under (& got me!) They lived in Oxford and sometimes they get really nostalgic forllife in England - they especially miss the lovely Sun mornign walks finished with lunch in a quaint country pub!

Anyway, I hope you'll come over to visit me when you've got a moment and say hi!

slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
ps. that ostrich looks delicious!! And oh - did you knowm the Chinese believe that toads bring you wealth - it's a very good sign when you find one! (My human, Hsin-Yi, is Chinese)

Hi Schnauzer Days,
We had a toad that lived at our back door for a YEAR!!!
We called him or her Toby.
I want to thank you for your kind words about me losing my beloved Bambi. I am heartbroken!! When I can blog about her life I want to celebrate her life with me. I do hope I will not lose you while I grieve.
Please come back even if I haven't blogged.
xx, Fern

hey Dexter and Louis,

*drool...never heard of dogs eating ostrich but that sure looks yummy! I wonder if my human will let me try that?

Your new friend is very cute! I have both frogs and toads in my yard. My human just sticks on a "Mr." and that is their name, even if they are girls. So, in my yard, if you call out "Mr. Frog" or "Mr. Toad" you will have lots of them hopping your way! Maybe you can just name him "Toadie." You pups are very clever, I am sure you will think of something cute!

Now, I am going to find out about ostrich! nom nom!
