It's Pet Summers around the World Photo time!

Hi all,

As promised it's Friday which means we're showing you first entries for Pet Summers around the World. Dogs in Poetry and Art

Morning all, we're still enjoying the Dog Days of summer here, although a heavy downpour this morning has broken the heat a bit. That's good because it means the woods will be lovely and smelly for our furtling walk later on.

The human has been doing a lot of Internet surfing while she's recuperating. She should know that Dex and I are the surfers in this household after our performance at the weekend celebrations. However she found a couple of things she has asked us to share with you.

First she found this lovely poem, there are lots of poems written about dogs and some of them are funny, some of them are quite sad too, but she thought this one was just lovely:

A Dog's Prayer

Oh, master, you can surely see
All that you do is wise to me.

I never weigh your right or wrong,
Enough that you and I belong.

Success may crown your dearest plan,
Yet love you more I never can.

And though you miserably fail
No change knows my delighted tail.

Your voice can raise me to the height

Anyway, we hope that our Mom is soon fully better so she can come out furtling with us again, meanwhile she hopes you enjoyed her pick of the Internet this week! Dog Days and Star Gazing.

Hi Everyone and hope you all had a great weekend, we joined the Feisty Three's huge party to celebrate the 4th of July weekend in America, we had a fantastic time! Happy Independence Day to all our American friends.

Well, we are into July now and we learned something this week. The start of July is the beginning of 'Dog Days', I expect you've heard the expression but did you know where it comes from?

Well, our human discovered this week that 'Dog Days' start in July and end at the beginning of September and are the hottest, sultriest days of Summer. Why are they called 'Dog Days'? Well, it seems that there is a huuuuge star in the sky called Sirius, also called the Dog Star! Well, what do you know! It is the biggest star in something called a constellation which is called Canis Major - hence 'Dog'.

The Dog Star is also the brightest star in the night sky, well that stands to reason - the brightest star should be named after the brightest animal. The Romans associated the hot and humid weather with Sirius, the Dog Star so these days became known as 'Dog Days' of summer.There is lots more info on this but our human is now getting a bit Geeky, she loves all this star stuff so we'll shut her up now.

All that matters to us is that Dog Days mean early walks before it gets too hot, lots of lying around in the shade (or in the sun in Louis's case, you might have known!), lots to drink and because of the light nights we often get an extra walk about 9 pm. Dog Days are our favourite.

It's Photo Competition time!

Hi all, we are soooo excited. Our human said that we have made so many friends that it was about time we had a Giveaway! Well, I wasn't too sure what that meant and I did wonder if she meant Louis but no, she said not Louis ;-). 

Anyway we thought a photo competition would be fun as we so love seeing your photo's. The theme of the competition is 'Pet Summers around the World'. We have made so many great new friends from abroad as well as new buddies here that an International theme seems a brilliant idea.

The competition will run for the whole of July. All you have to do is email a photograph of yourself in the summer in your part of the world. If you want to use Photoshop or whatever that's fine, whatever you like - just something that says 'Summery' to you whether it's sunshine or snow, we hope we get to see lots of different seasons! Our friends at SAS reminded us that we forgot our feline friends so of course it's open to all.

Every Friday during July we'll publish the entries so far and then the winner will be picked by someone very special - our Granny! She's quite elderly at 80 years old but is a huge animal lover. She'll pick the final 3 and then we'll put them on here for you to vote the winner! You have the whole of July to take the photo and send it to schnauzerdays@yahoo.co.uk if you have any probs with emailing it let us know, we'll confirm every entry by email - we are soooo excited as we say, get snapping you guys!

The prize is going to be a surprize hee hee - it will be a selction of goodies from us including toys and treats - wowser! We've checked and we can send things abroad so everyone's welcome. We're not entering because obviously we'd win, but here is a photo we think is quite Summery as we're sat in the flowers but we're sure you'll have some much more Summery ideas! Back to Normal - well nearly...

Hi Everyone,

First of all our Mum would like to say how touched she was by all your kind messages, she is back at home now and taking it very easy. She can sit and type carefully on her laptop - we have to dictate from the floor instead of her lap that's the only difference at the moment.

We've been very good as instructed by everyone and not jumped up or anything, well, we did try but that was because we were soooooo excited to see her again, I thought Louis was going to pee but he managed to control himself.

Anyway apologies for this being short and sweet we just wanted to check in, tomorrow we plan to visit Blog World proper and see what everyone has been up to and whether everyone has got over the Party in the Bark. We don't have a photo of a poorly Mum but we do have this one of us when we were poorly, that didn't stop Louis jumping on me as I remember!

We'll be gone - but not for long!

Hi all,

This is just a quick post as our human Mom is in a bit of a flap - no change there then! She's been waiting for some surgery and had a phone call yesterday to say she's having it done this Thursday! We're not too happy as we dislike any interruption to our routine but she's promised to only be gone a few days or so, but we may not be able to jump on her straight away when she comes home from hospital, which is also a bit of a worry. Anyway she's having something called her thyroid removed which also means she might not be able to shout quite so loudly - this is actually looking better and better ;-). She's promised we can visit as many of your blogs tonight as we can but then we won't be back until next week sometime so I hope the next week is good for you all. We've promised to be good boys for the human Dad, hee hee she doesn't know it but we sleep upstairs every night when she's away.

We can't possibly have a post without a photo so we've picked out an old one we all like, this was Louis's first day with us and I wasn't sure if I was going to let him back inside or not ,but he asked nicely! See you all in a week or so, Dex & Lou xxx

What's the password then Titch?

We're in the bad books...

Oh dear, the human is not happy with us. This is what happened, you see we always sleep downstairs and very occasionally sleep on their bed as a treat. Last night she was very tired so said we could sleep upstairs as we normally sleep longer then, and she could have a lie in.

Well she didn't allow for Summertime did she, those birds with their dawn chorus woke us up so we thought we ought to let her know there were birds singing to be chased out of the garden. A little gentle nudging didn't work so I got Louis to jump on her head - that worked!

So, we were all up at 5.00 am apart from the man human who may need a jump on the head soon, she was even madder because by 5.30 am this was us and she was wide awake (ish) :
