Louis and the Fireworks

Hi all,

Well, Bonfire Night is here and it looks like it's going to be a long one. The fireworks started about 5.30 pm and are still going 4 hours later. Some of our friends in the USA asked what Bonfire Night was, well in a nutshell in 1605 Guy Fawkes tried to blow up The Houses of Parliament, at the time the public lit bonfires in celebration of the 'Gunpowder Plot's failure and burned effigies of Guy Fawkes. Our Momster remembers being a child in the 1960's and going around town with a Guy Fawkes made of her Dad's old clothes stuffed with newspaper to ask for 'penny for the guy'!

Anyway, tonight Louis has been a little better. It was recommended he wear a tight coat as this makes him feel more secure and also SHE put the body wrap on him that she ordered this week. He stood like this without moving for ages, just his back legs shaking. Usually I am making fun of Louis but I did feel sorry for him.

I'm looking on a bit bemused by all the fuss over poor Louis
Eventually she had to pick him up, he was like a wooded dog with his legs stiff as a board, and she put him in his travel crate which is dark and cosy but he can see out through the netting. This was after one loud bang which saw him nearly strangle himself when he shot round behind the PC and got the wire tangled around his neck! Anyway so far so good, he is in his den and is eating the odd biscuit that is passed through to him, so he's not as stressed as he was. We're thinking the celebrations will probably go on until about midnight as there are a lot of private parties so meanwhile they've turned the TV up loud and we're settled in for a long night.

As for me, I've been down the garden, checked out what all the fuss is about, the peeps think I may be deaf but I just think I'm brave ;-)

Thinking of all the other poor dogs suffering out there tonight, it will soon be tomorrow thankfully!

Oh my dear sweet Beau Louis I is so sorry that the fireworks bother you so. Because I live so far from town I rarely hear them. I don't like them but I am like Dex in that way.

Hang in there buddy, it will get better, I promise!

Hope your Mom is doing better. I think you sport your new Thunder Shirt quite well. You should be their mascot!

Take care my darling boy, wish I could be there to ease your stress. Have a biscuit on me!

Hugs, XXXOOO

I'm with Louis .....I DONT LIKE FIREWORKS!!!! ...... I hide under the coffee table or under the big bed. I need you here with me my sweet Dex so you can help settle me!!

Isn't it funny - you call it Bonfire Night and here in Aussie we called it "Guy Fawkes" night.....but the selling of "home fire-works" was banned here about 30 years ago because the children kept injuring themselves and others!! Now to set off fire-works in your backyard you need a permit and a lot of money!

I see that you got both the Equafleece & Body Wrap. Think they're doing any good (at all)? I am curious about Equafleece t-shirt, how different is it from a normal regular t-shirt? I wear a t-shirt all the time but it doesn't seem to calm me down BOL

Hi Louis, we hope those old fireworks are finished now. Your coat looks like a great idea. Sort of like a big hug, but all the time. Take care little dude. No worries (especially for you) and love, Stella and Rory

Poor Louis! I've been very lucky in that I've never experienced this with any of my pets but I feel for the poor little guy.

Hopefully the fireworks are over and he can settle down now.

Oh poor Louis - hope that's the end of the fireworks now although we weren't really bothered by them either like Dex. It sounded as if that was one really bad night for Louis - and your peeps. We all snuggled in with the TV loud too but we could still hear the bangs. An extra big hug for Louis -
Love from Magic xx

hey Dexter and Louis,

"Remember, remember the 5th of November." Thanks for explaining Guy Fawkes Day. My human had heard of it, she just did not know it was called Bonfire Night. Sounds like a lot of fun! We really liked your mom's childhood memory of the day. Sounds like a fun tradition.

We are so sad for Louis! Poor thing! I am glad he calmed down and was able to eat a bit. Poor little fella!

Dexter, I agree - you are just a very brave pup! :->

The firewerks boomers dussn't bother me but OMD, my sis Sydney wants to jump out of her furs when the boomers is going. Mom closes all the winders and turns the TV up crazy lowd but Sydney still hears them. We has it on July 4 and New Year's Eve and just any old time sumbuddy in the nayborhood feels like celebrashuns fur wotefur reason... Wot I dussn't unnerstand is the firewerks do be illegal but peeples shoosts them anyways. Sigh.
