One Paw Forward, Two Paws back!! Movie Time

Hi all,

That's what our friend said our life is like at the moment and it's true! Just as things look to be settling down the Internet disappears - horror!! Evidently a cable has to be dug up so we have just intermittent connection - grrrrr. I wondered if Louis got a bit carried away with his digging last week!

Anyway as promised here are a few mini movies from our new walk, which the Momsters going to try and post before we get cut off again - hmmmmm - better make sure she paid the bill too - mwha..hha..haaaa!!!!

This was the very start of the walk - as you can see Goody Two Shoes Louis went running back to the Popster when he was called but I went on ahead to explore! If you have your volume up you'd have heard the lovely birdsong on that movie.

This is what I found at the bottom of the track, again if you turn the volume up the sounds of nature are lovely - 

Here is the little clip we promised you of Louis doing his 'Get off my Land' bit - he's like an angry farmer, he just needs a stick to wave ha ha!! Funniest thing is this was not his land it was theirs!!

A New Walk!!!

Hi Guys!

Hope everyone's doing well, is everyone looking forward to Easter? Every year we try but never get to share the Easter Eggs, SHE says they're bad for us but not even doggy chocolate ones, I think we're being deprived!

Anyway, the Popster has found a new walk for us, it's not far from the V-E-T (where Louis was last week by the way with a poorly tummy) so we have to hope on the way that we're off for a walk and not in THERE!

Schnauzers versus Poodle Video!

Hi all, hope you've all had a cracking weekend and a great St Patricks day those who were celebrating.We thought you might like to see this little movie of the Poodle we keep meeting - Louis looks more like a poodle with his curly coat but he'll keep that on until it warms up! There's no sound as it was so windy, and not Louis's wind bol!!!! We'll have to add a music track at some point, any ideas for a song choice? Anyway here's the clip, that's me (Dexter) doing the initial greeting and Louis charging in to see him off - I did consider going off with him and his peeps for a walk but found some grass I hadn't left pee mail on! love to all, Dex and Lou xxx

Back to the Fields at last!!

Hi all,

We finally sat the Momster down and said 'get on with it', we need our blog doing, she said she doesn't know where the time goes and she can't believe it's 10 days since she last PA'd for us!

Anyway we are such happy chappies this week, it must be summer on the way - we're back to field walking - yay!! We've been walking in the woods as the fields have been very very muddy - we don't mind - what's the problem?!!

Hee hee, hope you enjoyed our little tale, the poodle was actually quite a nice chap so we've decided to let him back on our land to play with us - but I really must have a quiet bark with him about this chase business - doesn't he know it's US that do the chasing!!

Happy Barkday Louis!!!

Yay, Louis is a mahoosive 5 years old!! It seems like only yesterday that our relatively peaceful household was invaded by Master Louis, he came from a place called Shaftesbury and the Humans went to collect him early one morning and left me with our Granny. This was the first photo when they bought him home:

It's great fun having a little bro' - I can't imagine life without him here now, who else I am going to get up to mischief with!!

Training Your Human Part 1

Morning all,

Dex and Louis here. Now, as there are so many new Pupsters joining Blogville thought it was about time we imparted some of our wealth of knowledge we have gained in training our humans. We may eventually write a book as we think there could be a call for this :-) Humans can be quite hard to train, the trick is to get them to think that they're doing the training but really it's the other way round.

Lesson 1.

How to get a treat.

Have a little mooch around the house and find something that you're not allowed to have, but that is easily and comfortably carried. Pick it up and wander slowly into the vicinity of your human, now sit and stare at them until you get their attention.

A glove is perfect for this

When you human sees you they will probably say something like 'No' - Louis thought that was his name for a year! As they come towards you to take the glove, run away quickly and do a few tours of the room - this part of the training is good exercise for the humans so you're actually doing them a favour. If you can't find anything else, try and get the lid off the recycle bin and hunt out an easily carried food box.

Now, the idea is to let the human have the item back before they start to get annoyed. Just stop running around, they will think they've made you stop. They will say something like 'leave it' and try to take the item from you, resist for a short while - this all adds to the triumph they will feel when you do eventually leave go.

Voila - you have been such a good dog by obeying the 'leave' command they have to give you a treat!!! When you are very experienced in this exercise you can actually immediately go and do the same again with something else, useful when you're a bit peckish.

Troubleshooting

Occasionally the urge to chew will be too much, so try not to pick anything too tempting for this training exercise. Louis is still at the phase where he gives in to the chew - I'm still training Louis ;-) 

Sometimes the urge to chew takes over!

So, we'll leave you to practise that exercise. remember to choose something easily carried and also practise the 'I deserve a treat now' look required for the end of the exercise.

What a Valentines Meal!!

Following on from earlier, we've had the most pawsome slap up dinner with Rubie and Tessa!! As you can see from this photo we had turkey with all the trimmings - Dexter as you can see is quite intent on the turkey but there was plenty to go round - even doggy bags to take home!

Happy Valentines Day!

Hi all, well what excitment in the kennel here as we prepare for the arrival of our dates for Valentines day. Rubie and Tessa are trotting over here as we speak ;-)

Dexter had a lovely surprise from Rubie, this is what she sent him - all the way from Australia!

Louis not wanting to be left out has had a special delivery from his Tessa too - he may be busy for a while!!

Anyway we can hear someone or some 'thing' coming so we'd better go and meet our laydeeeees :-) We sent some special transport to fetch them, this horse owes us a favour as we let him graze in 'our' fields!

Good Bath and Bad Bath!

Morning all,

We've had a good week here with lots of frosty sunny days, hope you've all had a good week.

Our highlight of the week was a trip into Bath which is about 5 miles away - the Momster had an appointment there so we dropped her off and went to Victoria Park which is right in the City for a walk with the Mister. We had a great time and met lots of dogs to play with - unfortunately he forgot the flashy box!! This is a photo from our last visit there just so you can see where we went.

 Well, this large area in front of The Royal Crescent was more like a Dog Park last week, we met the most feisty little Chihuahua you've ever seen, what fun we had chasing round in circles with him - boy was he quick!
Anyway, now the bad bit. Every walk we have in the winter means one of two things when we get home - shower or bath...grrrrrr. After our walk in Bath it was bath time - oh the humiliation of the baby bath....still I suppose it's worth it. There had better be treats after this!

Busy couple of days ahead. We have to arrange our Valentines Dates with our laydeees, Ruby and Tessa who have accepted our invitation - what lucky pups we are! Watch this space....exciting!!

Finally, look what we found on the Internet, we think it's from some TV programme but it's Dexter's new motto! Now to find one for Louis who is most put out!

Where's our Snow??!!

Morning all,

Well it seems that most of the UK has had lots of snow over the weekend, we had a light coating and then it was gone! We love running around in it - we don't like the snow boots quite so much, our legs end up very heavy by the time we get home from a snow walk. Anyway we thought we post some pictures of last years snow and try and remember the fun!

Hello Everybuddy!!

Hi all, the terrible two here, at least that's what SHE keeps calling us, we prefer Dex and Lou!

Boy have we missed you all, we've had a lovely Christmas and New Year although it was a bit odd as the Popster has been in charge of cooking and any household stuffies, while the Momster supervised from the poorly chair!

We don't even have any new photie-o-graphs to show you as she couldn't hold the camera up so we'll post an old one and hope you don't mind, she be back snap happy with the flashy box soon no doubt - oh dear.

Right, we're going to get around as many blogs as we can an hour at a time for the next few days and hopefully catch up on all the news from Blogville. We have heard from our lovely ladies Tessa and Rubie that there is going to be a Valentines Ball - whoop whoop!!

We've missed you all so much but at last the Mom has had her op and is home and being looked after by us, well the Dad helps a bit too.

Our Note for Absence!

Hello Bloggy Buddies! 

We needed the Momster to come on and give our note for absence and hope we'll be forgiven ;-) She's now told her surgery will probably be before Christmas so it's a mad panic here now getting everything done, as she'll be in a sling for a while after. Anyway she'll be back good as new and ABLE TO TYPE with two hands hopefully in a few weeks! We'll keep reading what you're all up to and try to post again before Christmas. Birds and Happy Thanksgiving

Morning all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Blogville friends across the pond. We hope you all have a fabulous day, eat lots of turkey which your humans will have spent hours preparing for you and have fun!! We can't wait to see all the photo's of your Special Day.

Well we hope we're not too late to pawticipate in Sarge's 'Give us the Bird' event. We have to post a photo of a bird - any bird - and we thought of this one straight away. This is one from back in the summer when the days were long, the hours of sun stretched on, the walks were long .... ahhhhh ..... ooops sorry going off there!

Anyway this is our contribution, we've named him Captain Beaky! He probably has another name but we liked that one, he's about 4 feet tall too! He's a Rhea who lives at a farm shop not too far away, they sell their eggs their and they are Ginormous!!

Goodbye to Kaska...run free at The Bridge

Hello all,

A bit of a sad day today as we heard some sad news. This is a goodbye post to one of our blogging buddies, Kaska who was Magic's older brother. He was so well loved by Leigh and Judith as well as all the other dogs. We just want them to know we are thinking of them and know you will all want to send them big doggy hugs at this time, it never gets any easier to say goodbye, but hopefully it will be a tiny little comfort knowing that we're all thinking of you and Kaska and his wonderful life.

Happy Birthday Dexter!!

Morning all, Louis here for a change! I came on to wish my Big Bro a Very Happy Barkday, he's SIX today, blimey that's ooooold, 42 in hooman years so he may be out buying a Harley soon ;-)

Anyway much excitement here as he had a Hairmail letter, that will be expalined :-) It was ALL THE WAY from Australia, from his bestest girl Rubie Lou.

Yay - my girl remembered!

Guess what Rubie put a little lock of her fur inside for him so he had a really good sniff! Dexter said thank you so much, he will treasure his card and his lock of fur!

Dex has a very restricted Diet after having such a bad bout of pancreatitis last year so no birthday treats but he's having his favourite White Fish poached for his tea, and as an extra present a mega long walk, extra furtling time is the best pressie he could have, and I get to go too - bonus!

The Momster asked me to add a note that she's still waiting for her shoulder surgery so finds the typing hard going sometimes but she's doing her best to keep up with everyone for us when she can!

Last Years Snow, Winter Days and Stuff...

Hi Peeps, what a difference a couple of weeks makes! From glorious sunshine we are now feeling the chill as Winter is upon us. We know there has been a lot of early snow across the pond, and some of our friends have blogged about it. We've been warned of snow this year so for once we will be prepared!

What we need, and don't laugh, are some snow boots. Thing is last year we had days with NO WALKS because as soon as we got outside this happened:

The snow collected like great big snowballs on our paws and leg furnishings and were really heavy to lift, turning to ice and really painful to try and get off. The Peeps don't really like the idea of Booty Boys but are investigating possibilities. If anyone has experience we'd be grateful for recommendations.

Finally we are glad to report that the second night of Fireworks saw Louis a lot calmer. The Body wrap definitely helped, he still wasn't a happy pup but didn't spend the night shaking so we'll be continuing with that this Christmas/New Year when the fireworks are about.

Louis and the Fireworks

Hi all,

Well, Bonfire Night is here and it looks like it's going to be a long one. The fireworks started about 5.30 pm and are still going 4 hours later. Some of our friends in the USA asked what Bonfire Night was, well in a nutshell in 1605 Guy Fawkes tried to blow up The Houses of Parliament, at the time the public lit bonfires in celebration of the 'Gunpowder Plot's failure and burned effigies of Guy Fawkes. Our Momster remembers being a child in the 1960's and going around town with a Guy Fawkes made of her Dad's old clothes stuffed with newspaper to ask for 'penny for the guy'!

Anyway, tonight Louis has been a little better. It was recommended he wear a tight coat as this makes him feel more secure and also SHE put the body wrap on him that she ordered this week. He stood like this without moving for ages, just his back legs shaking. Usually I am making fun of Louis but I did feel sorry for him.

I'm looking on a bit bemused by all the fuss over poor Louis

Eventually she had to pick him up, he was like a wooded dog with his legs stiff as a board, and she put him in his travel crate which is dark and cosy but he can see out through the netting. This was after one loud bang which saw him nearly strangle himself when he shot round behind the PC and got the wire tangled around his neck! Anyway so far so good, he is in his den and is eating the odd biscuit that is passed through to him, so he's not as stressed as he was. We're thinking the celebrations will probably go on until about midnight as there are a lot of private parties so meanwhile they've turned the TV up loud and we're settled in for a long night.

As for me, I've been down the garden, checked out what all the fuss is about, the peeps think I may be deaf but I just think I'm brave ;-)

Thinking of all the other poor dogs suffering out there tonight, it will soon be tomorrow thankfully!

You just can't get the Staff...

Hello Friends! 

Well, we are thinking of advertising for a new PA - this one is on a Final Warning! Not only has she failed to write up our adventure on Halloween but she has fallen out with the photo thingy on the computer and is using a lot of bad words, she needs the photo's to go with the story evidently.

We can only apologise and promise that our adventures will be coming soon, as soon as she makes friends with Photoshop again ;-)

Meanwhile you might like to see our new Bandana's - she made us some to slip on our collars, I'm modelling it - we've got a Christmassy star one now too!

It's Bonfire Night here on Saturday which is the night the Peeps dread most each year. I'm not bothered with the fireworks but they drive Louis crazy, and he gets the trembles terribly. The Momster has bought him a body wrap to see if it helps, we'll let you know how that goes. My Uncle Ian reckons I don't have a problem with Fireworks because I was born in November and was a young Pupster all through the Firework season November - January. Any one else find this? That was also a little hint that it's my birthday on the 17th ;-)
